ABOUT THE BLAU-GOLD STUDIO/ TEACHING FELLOWSHIP
Root Division is currently seeking applicants for the 2020-21 Blau-Gold Studio/ Teaching Fellowship (BGSTF). In its seventh year, the fellowship provides free studio workspace to a teaching artist in exchange for being an integral part of Root Division’s Studios Program. In large part, the commitment involves teaching classes one to two afternoons per week at one of our Youth Education partner program sites. Working as a teaching-artist in residence for the full school year, the BGSTF plans a curriculum and develops a series of accessible, relevant, and fun projects for the students at a local school site.

Strong BGSTF candidates...
• Demonstrate excellence in their studio practice and/or art-making.
• Have a minimum of one year of experience teaching or facilitating projects with groups of children or youth.
• Have a passion for working with underserved youth or adults.
• Show enthusiasm for working individually and collaboratively to serve the community.
• Reside in one of the nine Bay Area counties.
• Are bilingual (Many of our programs serve English Language Learners, with the other languages as Spanish and Tagolog.)
COMMITMENT
Awarded BGSTF will be asked to commit to...
• An average of 20 volunteer hours per month to the organization from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021
• A minimum of 1-2 weekday afternoons per week to teach from September 2020 through May 2021
• Helping produce and attending the New Growth student showcase on May 8, 2021
• Attending monthly All Artist Meetings (one Wednesday evening per month) from July 2020-June 2021
• Attending Second Saturday receptions (the second Saturday evening of each month) from July 2020-June 2021
• Attending other events as scheduled (includes Art Auction in October 2020 & TASTE 2021 in April 2021)
SUBMISSION INFORMATION

APPLICATION MATERIALS
Please submit the following materials for review:
1. Application Form (complete fields below)
2. Cover Letter (PDF at 1MB max): Please introduce yourself, tell us why you are interested in the Root Division community, and how this fellowship would impact you as an artist and/or teacher. Please add three references (contact name, email, phone) at the bottom of the letter.
3. Artist resume and/or Professional resume. (PDF at 1MB max)
4. Examples of your artwork (up to 12 images), with a corresponding image info. (Ideally the image jpgs and info are compiled and attached into a single PDF at 10MB max.)
5. Artist Statement about your artwork (as seen in images submitted).
6. Examples of student work (6-8 images and/or video documentation) from successful projects in which you worked with children or youth. (Ideally the image jpgs and info are compiled and attached into a single PDF at 10MB max.)
7. Two example lesson plans for art projects, indicating the appropriate target grade level(s), K-5.
