Forest Friends Teacher Position
Are you a former or current teacher looking for a part-time
job that is fulfilling, supportive, and fills a needed gap in our community?
Imagine being the administrator and teacher of your own class of just 6 children.
You set your teaching hours, preferred age group and client base, and curriculum
delivery methods. Forest Friends will provide a prepared learning space both
indoors and outdoors, basic outdoor learning curriculum, support for classroom
management and parent communication, all administrative tasks and marketing.
You bring your teaching magic and love of the outdoors, and we will help you design
a program that works for you and your family!
Purpose: Delivering Forest Friends outdoor education curriculum,
Teaching social skills and outdoor skills, Maintaining site and child safety
with Forest Friends standards, Communication with Parents.
Duties:

Teach a 1, 2, or 3-day Forest Friends Class of 6
children. This position allows you to set your own schedule for the school year.

Use direct and indirect instruction methods with
children in the early childhood age group in the areas of social skills, local
animals and plants, weather and seasons, and primitive skills. May also include
basic letter/phonics instruction, numeracy, and phonemic awareness. There is
some flexibility of curriculum goals depending on your experience, class type
and age group.

Self-evaluate effectiveness of teaching through
observations and adjust accordingly.

Spend at least 90-120 minutes of each class time
outdoors.
·
Observe and evaluate children’s play and development.
·
Work in a team to maintain the outdoor and
indoor learning spaces as necessary.
Qualifications:
·
Experience in education, either outdoor
education or early childhood education.
·
Experience working with young children.
·
Reliability and consistency.
·
Completed extended background check with state
of Idaho (Forest Friends will cover the state processing fee, you will cover
the fingerprinting fee of $5).
·
Current Pediatric first aid and CPR.
·
Preference given to candidates with experience
working with neurodiverse learners.
Environmental Considerations:
·
You need to be comfortable with your own
layering for extended outdoor activity and able to keep yourself warm and dry
enough to assist children in cold weather, with your gloves off, on occasion.

You’ll need to be able to walk on uneven
terrain, steep terrain, and primitive trails.
·
You’ll need to be able to hike while carrying
backpacks and other lightweight objects.
Compensation: $21/hour
