What Wigtown Needs
Our mission is to bring neglected land and property into community ownership in a sustainable way, to benefit and enhance the lives of the people living in and working in Wigtown and Bladnoch.

W&BCI started when the community wanted to bring the Old Showfield into community ownership to create a mix of affordable housing and community spaces; although we still have a registered a right to buy we unable to pursue that goal until the current owners decide to sell. Around the same time the Bank of Scotland decided to close Wigtown’s only bank. After engaging with the community about the possibilities of its future use we were able to buy the former bank building and over this summer work will be finished to convert it into two affordable flats for local people and a small bunkhouse hostel which will create a new job and attract additional tourist income.

W&BCI is asking what you think we should do next. We are keen to hear from all age groups.

What does Wigtown need? Are there areas or buildings that you think would benefit from community development? What services/activities are needed in Wigtown and Bladnoch? Would a multi-purpose venue be useful? What should happen there? Do you have any other comments or ideas?
