#WeAreEquals -  Music Academy MADRID //
/////// CONVOCATORIA CERRADA /////  THIS OPEN CALL IS CLOSED ///

We are looking for future leaders of the electronic music sector able to transform this industry towards more gender equality and social diversity.

#WeAreEquals – Music Academy is a training programme for rising talents in order to provide them the tools to develop and expand their career. We are particularly interested in identifying artists, producers and professionals who are influential ambassadors in the music sector and are therefore able to push the agenda on equality and diversity.

The training will cover  the following topics:
- Industry perspective- with a particular focus on DIY, electronic scenes and subcultures.
- Discussion around different models and approaches that have worked for different artists
- Practical exercise - ‘strategy and identity’
- Digital promotion, distribution and developing a visual identity.
- How to DIY release - exploring different approaches to releasing music
- The potential for developing artist communities and networks

The British Council's work in Spain focuses on changing perceptions and encouraging greater equality, diversity and inclusion across the arts and society. Through the #WeAreEquals – Music Academy programme, we intend to bring these strands together. Our focus on gender equality in music is further bolstered by research and activity across the sector. The presence of women in the music industry remains very low in across Europe; women represent 20% or less among registered composers and songwriters (PRS Foundation’s Keychange programme). This programme will also gather together our current partnerships with festivals, tour managers, record labels and artists in order to promote actively the role of women and underrepresented groups in the music industry towards professionals and audience.

For more than 9 years now the British Council has been at the forefront of programming a gender balanced radio show on Radio3 (Spanish National Radio). The Selector showcases the best of British emerging talents, many of whom have gone on to become some of today's international stars such as Florence & The Machine, Years & years, Jorja Smith or Dua Lipa.
