Application for UUCville Social Action Collection
For Program Year:  July 2024 to June 2025
Submission due by: May 3, 2024

The Social Action Collection (SAC) is the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Charlottesville's (UUCville) monthly collection to benefit non-profit organizations whose mission and vision are aligned to our Seven Principles (listed further below). The SAC was established as a means to support the local non-profit organizations that our congregants are passionate about and involved in. In the past it has typically yielded $2,500-$5,000 in donations which are sent directly to the featured organization for that month.

Any non-profit can apply for the monthly collection as long as at least two UUCville congregants with an established relationship with the sponsor and support the organization and its application. Preference is given to organizations that are in the Charlottesville/Blue Ridge area, are in alignment with our mission, and will experience a noticeable impact from this size donation.

Our number one goal for this application is to get to know how you are making a difference in our community. We know you are doing a LOT of exciting work. We don't need to know about all of it here. Please keep in mind that our volunteers will be reading a lot of applications in a short amount of time. The strongest applications are brief, focused, and engaging. Tell us about a particular impact you've made recently. What new project would these funds really make a difference on and who would benefit? (e.g. $2000 will make the difference between 10 families having heat this winter or being out on the streets.) Who's life have you changed? Again, brief, focused, and engaging.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your sponsors and feel free to email Karen Prairie at socialjustice@uucharlottesville.org.

SAC Process and Deadlines
Editing and Sharing the Organization's Application:

Applications can be edited as often as desired up until the deadline of May 3rd. Your congregant sponsors must review your application prior to that deadline. Once you have filled out the application here, “Submit” it. (Think of submitting as saving.) A copy of it will be emailed to the address you provided above and it will include a link for you to edit the application. You can then forward that email or the link to your sponsors to review.

How the SAC Selection Process Works:

From March 25th - May 3rd, UUCville will be accepting applications for their 2024-2025 Social Action Collection. One non-profit organization will be chosen to be the recipient of a special financial collection for each month, June - July. There are nine open months for non-profit organizations from the Charlottesville area community. (The other three are reserved by the congregation for predetermined organizations.) All eligible applications received by the May 3 deadline will be posted on the UUCville website for review by congregants from May 7 - May 21. On May 21, there will be a formal meeting of the Social Justice Council at 7 pm EDT via Zoom. Each eligible organization will have an opportunity to present a 2 minute appeal to the congregants who attend. Following all presentations, organizational representatives will leave the meeting and remaining UUCville members will vote for the organizations they wish to be recipients for the coming year. The nine groups with the most votes will be selected. All applicants will be notified of the results of the vote. Each selected organization will be assigned a month for their collection and be notified of that separately.

Dates to Remember:

May 3 - Application Deadline
May 7 - Applications available on UUCville website for review
May 19 - Deadline to submit pre-recorded 2 minute appeal video
May 21, 7 pm - SJ Council "Pitch" Night to vote on 24-25 SAC recipients
May 22 or soon thereafter - All applicants notified of the results of the vote
