Course Description:
The purpose of the AP course in statistics is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing and drawing conclusions from data.
Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes:
1. Exploring Data: Describing patterns and departures from patterns
2. Sampling and Experimentation: Planning and conducting a study
3. Anticipating Patterns: Exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation
4. Statistical Inference: Estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses
Students who successfully complete the course and exam may receive credit, advanced placement or both for a one-semester introductory college statistics course.
Prerequisites
Algebra II
Course Design
This course is designed to meet the standards set by the College Board for an Advanced Placement Statistics course.
The course will introduce students to basic statistical methods and skills.
Materials and data will be gathered from textbooks, school, news outlets, lectures, the World Wide Web, and various other places.
At the beginning of the school year students will receive a list of formulas and tables to be used throughout the school year.
Students will use TI-84 or higher graphing calculators: issued by the school if the student does not own one personally.
Students will complete three to five projects/explorations each semester. Some of these assignments are completed during class time, while others are completed outside of class.
Students will be exposed to and utilize various types of technology, such as, Microsoft Excel and Internet applets.

2. Engage in all activities and assignments
3. Never give up!  Try and try again.
4. Inquire when unclear
5. Use appropriate language at all times (including the language of math)
6. Smile because math loves you

In addition to these guidelines it is important to be punctual, prepared, and positive.  All students must adhere to all school and district policies and procedures.  This is essential to create the optimal environment for learning.
Classroom Procedures
1. When you enter class gather all necessary materials for the day’s lesson.

Grading
1. Homework, class-work, special assignments, and warm-ups will count as 60% of your  grade.
2. Major tests and other major assessments will also count for the remaining 40% of your grade.
3. Late homework and assignments will be penalized:
                      a. One day late – 70 is the maximum grade you will receive.
                      b. Two day late – 60 is the maximum grade you will receive.
                      c. Assignments turned in after two days will receive a zero.
