Bongani Mayosi National Health Scholars Programme Applications - Request for Application
Applications are invited for scholarships that are funded by the National Department of Health under the Bongani Mayosi National Health Scholars Programme. The PhD scholarships are open to South African citizens/permanent residents and tenable in South African universities. Funding is for a full degree period (i.e.to completion) as a tax-free scholarship for full-time study.  Master’s degree funding may be considered where compelling. The level of funding is equivalent to the after-tax take-home pay of the applicant, based on the salary scales of the relevant post (or equivalent) at the National Department of Health. The scholarship value may be reviewed annually in line with Public Service regulations depending on availability of funds.

The aim of this RFA is to fund PhDs in the Maternal and Child Health research area.  HIV research related to the maternal and child health domain will also be considered.

The National Health Scholars Programme aims to contribute positively towards efforts to strengthen and accelerate progress towards equity in research capacity development within the National Department of Health human capital across South Africa. Where appropriate priority will be given to hitherto under represent designated groups, institutions, and or priority research niches.
