MEC Sunday School is inviting the ‘GIRL TALK’ group which is comprised of an all-female staff to present their program “Coming of age” to the CPSA students. Discussion areas include the physical, emotional, and Islamic changes that girls experience during this time.  

Objective of the program is to provide a safe and loving space for girls to learn and discuss this sensitive topic with their friends and the speakers. The workshop will take 2-3 hours. Topics include self-esteem, coping with changes, concept of maturity, cleanliness & hygiene, basic Islamic rulings & accountability.
The instructors are experienced in this topic and have both an Islamic & psychology background. A brief introduction to the teachers is shared below.

SPEAKERS
Afra Hashmi grew up in Toronto and earned her BA from University of Toronto and completed her MS in Elementary Education from Depaul University in Chicago. Afra has taught for almost a decade as a public school teacher in the west suburbs of Chicago. She has also taken traditional Islamic courses in various topics. She lives in Glendale Heights with her husband and her three children.
 
Ayesha Quadri was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She attended the University of IL in Chicago and Argosy University. She earned her degree in Psychology with a focus in women's counseling. She is upon completing her Alima Program, in which she has studied subjects such as Hadith, Quranic Tafseer, Arabic and more in Islamic Institutions since 2003. For years she has been involved in many youth groups and activities and has taken an interest in establishing a connection with Muslim sisters. She conducts weekly women's halaqahs, youth lectures, children's programs and teaches online. She currently lives in Milwaukee with her husband and four children.  

Fatima Hashmi is a native of the northern Chicago suburbs. She attended UIC and received her BS in Education. She has given back to her community in numerous ways since her teen years including attending organizing halaqahs and events for groups such as SSU and MCCA. She currently resides in Schaumburg
with her four kids where she teaches online for MCC Academy

Sana Mohiuddin is a marital and family counselor. She earned her MA in Family Counseling at Northeastern Illinois University and a BA from Texas A&M University. Her desire to broaden her perspective on human
behavior and family dynamics has led her to study spiritual development under local and international scholars, taking her on travels that have included Damascus, Syria and Lusaka, Zambia. In Zambia, Sana
received ijazah, or license to teach from Jaamia Zainab in the traditional sciences, including fiqh, hadith, tafsir, usool, sarf, nahw, and balagha. Through her studies and her community involvement, Sana brings a unique holistic approach to both counseling and teaching. She is teaching online courses for Rabata- online learning
programs for women by women. She is also is a Licensed Professional Counselor working as a therapist at Khalil Center.

Safora Ahmad grew up in the Chicagoland suburbs. In high school she took Islamic Studies classes under Alima Sawdah and taught in weekend schools for many years. During college she developed and opened an Islamic after school program for children attending public school. She holds a degree Social Sciences and Early Childhood Education. She has also taken part in SSU and girl scouts and has taught IFS and CPSA. She then furthered her Islamic Education at Darul Uloom Chicago and continues to take Islamic classes.
