Learning & Teaching Seminar: Effective Communication for Clinical Education               (Recorded Video)

Speaker: Mr. Stanley KO, Senior Lecturer, School of Nursing, TWC

Synopsis:

Supervised clinical practice or the clinical education is indeed challenging, not to mention when it occurs in a dynamic setting that deemed necessary for safety, life and death, ethics and time-limited concern for rapid decision making of responses. As a clinical mentor, the instantaneous assessment of the clinical flow and relevant operationalization of potential teaching and learning components is essential for effective clinical teaching and safe learner practice (and of course to our service users). Yet this is a necessary condition for the practice and not sufficient to an eventual learning outcome, if there lacking the feedback to the learners. Communication is paramount, not just to convey the cognitive content and also to the support of the emotional-motivational aspect of learners. This sharing attempts to identify some of the critical points for discussion and hopefully can invite more feedback, discussion and sharing on effective clinical teaching practice and strategies.
