Raspberry Pi & UK Youth Expression of Interest
The Raspberry Pi Foundation is hoping to secure some funding to be able to supply Raspberry Pi desktop computers to disadvantaged young people to help during lockdown and beyond. This opportunity is only available for organisations in the UK Youth movement. Our aim is to supplement the initiative being run by the DfE (which is aimed primarily at year 10 students) to reach any school age child without a device of their own, which they will be able to keep after lockdown. If you can provide some basic information now, it will help us secure the funding and help out young people that you work with.

We hope to be able provide a Raspberry Pi computer, which is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It’s capable of doing almost everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video, to making spreadsheets, word-processing, and playing most games. It won't be able to support video conferencing, as we won't be supplying a camera. The Raspberry Pi needs minimal assembly to connect the ports correctly using the wires provided. Easy to follow instructions can be provided to help recipients with this process.

*At the moment, we're trying to confirm the funding*, and it would be really helpful if you could give us an indication of how many young people you work with might be able to benefit from this, and a little bit about their circumstances (which will help us convince the purse holders!).

- We're asking for anonymous data about the young people at this stage to help us make the case to our funder.

- We are also asking for your contact information and will be emailing you directly for the next steps if we are successful.
