Play Therapy Skills (Special Needs)
Hello and welcome to the registration for our distance learning programme on Play Therapy Skills (Special Needs). This course is designed as a continuation of our course on Play Therapy for Children with Special Needs. It is compulsory to have completed either our Play Therapy for Children with Special Needs course, or our Play Therapy Level 1 training, in order to register for this course.

As with all of our courses, you may contact the presenter at anytime with any questions relating to the course and you will receive personalised feedback and correspondence for each assignment.

This  course comprises of six modules and is designed to further your knowledge and skills, as well as put in to practice what has been learnt in your previous training.

Course Contents:

1) The Play Therapy Room.
Participants will receive a tutorial video and additional material relating to the Play Therapy room - design, materials, basic principles when setting up the room.
Participants will submit two  Play Therapy room designs:
a) Your ideal Play Therapy Room
b) How you could set up the room in your current practice (home/school/professional setting).

2) ‎Group Play therapy session.
This module will be focussing on Play Therapy Group sessions and is broken down into three sections:
a) Critical review of a group session
b) Tutorial outlining the planning and implementation of a group session
c) Conducting your own group Play Therapy session
Participants will receive a Tutorial discussion video and a video of a group session conducted by Lucy Bowen, along with additional resource materials. There is a focus in this module on understanding music, movement and sensory play.
Participants should conduct and record their own group session (you will be provided with full guidelines on how to do this and should you need assistance, we can aid in finding children to take part). An alternative mode of assessment is available to those unable to record or carry out sessions.

3) ‎Understanding the stages of play.
Participants will receive staged videos imitating children's behaviours in the Play Therapy room..
Participants  are to watch and review each video - what stage of play? How would you engage with the child etc.

4) ‎Critical review of Play Therapy sessions.
Participants will review videos  of staged Play Therapy sessions (enacted by adults).
Participants should critically review each session - the  positives and negatives of each. What did the therapist do right? What could have been done differently etc.

5) ‎Using art in Play Therapy.
Participants will receive a video presentation and additional resource materials regarding the use of art in Play Therapy.
Participants will be provided with therapeutic art activities where they can create and review their therapeutic process.

6) ‎Assessment and Ethical Guidelines.
Participants will receive a tutorial video and additional materials on how to assess the child and write goals/progress notes. Ethical Guidelines and session planning will also be discussed.
Participants should write goals based on the staged videos of Play Therapy sessions.

Please note that the videos and materials are copyright and are for use by the registered participant only.

A certificate will be issued by the National Association for Play Therapy India upon completion of the course.

The course is now running and you may begin once you have successfully completed the required Play Therapy training. If the previous course is still ongoing, you will receive the material upon completion. As before, you are free to complete the course at your own pace and their are no deadlines for starting or finishing once you have enrolled.
