Due to COVID-19 all paper applications, placement classes, and teacher recommendations for the McNair Dance Department have been suspended.  If you are interested in the advanced dance classes at McNair, this digital application will need to be submitted.  Once you submit this application you will no longer be able to edit it.  

This dance application is for students that will be going to McNair Magnet School during the 2020-2021 school year and would like to be placed in an advanced dance class.  If you are interested in Dance 1 or Just Move there is no application, you would select that on your registration form for McNair.  If you are unsure of which class you would like to take please watch the video below.  The video below describes each of the dance classes offered at McNair in detail.

Movement Experience
Please fill out each section to the best of your ability.  I would like to know as much as possible about any previous movement experience you have had.  Some very skilled dancers, in the past, have had unusual training.  Do not leave any blank.  If you do not have any experience in that style please include that information. Do not include combination classes ex. Ballet/Tap or Jazz/Hip-hop OR any classes; dance, cheer, or gymnastics, before the age of 7 years old.

Dance classes are available for students to grow and develop as dancers and artist.  It is natural to not have experience in all areas of movement listed below.  

Dance Experience

Have you ever taken a structured dance classes?  If so, for how long?
Have you completed a McNair Dance Class during the 2019-2020 school year, if so, which one?

Are you currently or have you ever been a competitive dancer?  Have you ever competed a dance solo?
Have you ever participated in a production of the nutcracker?  If so, what ballet company did you perform with and was your role?

Placement Contract
Time Commitments:  Dance 2 and Dance 3 are classes offered at McNair Magnet School.  The classes are elective classes and are taken during the school day. There are field trips offered during the school day and are required for these courses.  Dance 2 and 3 will also be in 2 performances a year that take place outside of the school day.  These performances are required and the dates of these performances are available the first week of school. If there are additional performance dates they will be given ASAP.  Most rehearsals and performances do not affect other commitments such as: volleyball, dance studios, gymnastics, soccer etc.

Financial responsibilities: Dance 2 and 3 require a full uniform (Estimate of $90-100, there is uniform assistance if necessary).  The costumes used in all teacher choreographed performances are provided for the dancers.  The cost of the field trips (Depending on trip $40-$60) and travel gear (T-shirt and bag about $20) are the responsibility of the dancer.

Student Commitment: I understand that if I am placed in Dance 2 or 3 that I will have the additional time and financial responsibilities listed above for the course I am taking.  If I am placed in Dance 2 or 3 I will be responsible for those requirements.  I understand that  leading professionals in the dance industry will place me in the best course for my personal growth and my experience level.
