Welcome! My name is Heidi. As a First Grade Teacher, I was unaware of the Science that exists on how reading should be taught.  Once I found out about it, I was angry.  Angry that no one told me.  Angry knowing I could have helped so many kids if I had known.  Angry that this is not common knowledge among classroom teachers in the primary grades.

That anger soon turned into a need to share.  The best way to help our kids is by educating ourselves.  I believe literacy is a social justice issue because there is no good reason why science based practices are not being used in every classroom.  80% of SPED referrals are related to decoding deficits.  We are not teaching reading right even though the knowledge exists on how to do so.  Many schools are not even using science based practices in tier 2 & 3 instruction.
