2024 Los Jalapeños CSA online sign-up
About the farm and farmer:
Juan Gonzalez Torres founded this CSA in 2011. He has been growing vegetables in Wisconsin for over twenty years, and learned the art of farming in Puebla, Mexico. There, his family has grown and sold vegetables for decades. While Juan has had to adapt his farming for the WI climate (adding a high tunnel for season extension!) he still enjoys growing Mexican specialty crops like jalapeños, Mexican squash, squash blossoms, pápalo, and tomatillos to share with CSA members.

Juan and other farmers at the Farley Center Farm Incubator have always grown food without chemicals. Their production is certified organic. This means the produce is safer for you and the production is safer for the environment and farm staff. This CSA is a part of the Fair Share CSA Coalition and is eligible for a rebate  from participating HMOs.

About this CSA Share:
Los Jalapeños CSA will provide 20 weeks of seasonal vegetables starting in June, including items like spinach, cilantro, pepicha, radishes, lettuce, green beans, scallions, papalo, carrots, cucumbers, garlic, beets, sugar snap peas, swiss chard, onions, potatoes, squash, broccoli, and tomatoes.

We sell two share sizes, both are delivered as a weekly share. Examples of what would be in each share size is below.
Large or whole share at $650 dollars
A full share is recommended for members with households of 3-5 eaters. It is also reasonable for households with 1-2 people who regularly cook at home, and/or eat a vegetable-forward diet. Here is an example of a large share from week 10 of last year:
1 quart cherry tomatoes
1 lb slicer tomatoes
1  bunch swiss chard
1 bunch cilantro
2 lb purple potatoes
1 bunch dill leaf
1 bunch parsley
2 garlic bulbs
3 onions
1.5 lb zucchinis mix

Small or 2/3 share at $435 dollars
A 2/3 share is recommended for members with households of 1-3 eaters. It is also reasonable for households that are larger but may eat out a couple times per week, or have vegetable picky eaters. Here is an example of a small share from week 10 of last year:
1 bunch swiss chard
1 purple cabbage
2 lb purple potatoes
1 bunch parsley
1 bunch dill
1.5 lb zucchinis
2 garlic bulbs
3 onion

We also sell Market Cards as an option for those members who would like to be able to choose their vegetables at a farmers market stand. This is a good option for members who travel frequently and may not want to get a box every week. Purchasing a market card is another way to support the farm and take advantage of healthcare rebates that may be offered by your HMO. You can use your market cards during the 2023 season at our farm stand. Each card costs 50 dollars and is worth $55 in vegetables. We currently sell at the Hilldale Market (Wednesday and Saturday Mornings), as well as Monroe St and Northside Markets on Sundays.
