A specialized encyclopedia (submit the full citation in MLA8 or Chicago Style Format) - This is meant to be a starting point, gives you the basic facts about your subject, their major achievements, and possible historical controversies associated with them, ex. The Encyclopedia of the Middle Ages, the Oxford Classical Dictionary.  General encyclopedias (Britannica, Columbia or Wikipedia) are not acceptable!  Credo (found on list of library databases) is a great place to start. *

One journal article from a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal (submit the full citation in MLA8 or Chicago Style Format) - This source will be focused on a particular incident or aspect of the interview subject’s life.  For example, journal article topics might include battlefield tactics used by Charles Martel in the Battle of Tours or hidden messages in a mosaic image of the Empress Theodora.  To find a scholarly journal article you should use the electronic databases that are available through our SUNY Ulster library system. JSTOR or Academic Search Complete are good places to start. *

One book (submit the full citation in MLA8 or Chicago Style Format) - This should be a standard biography (NOT autobiography or primary source) that covers the interview subject’s entire life and should be published by a reputable publisher or university press. This is where you will get the bulk of your information.  Use Discover DeWitt to find books and ebooks. Follow descriptions on library page about borrowing print books. *
