About Oriole Advocates
Oriole Advocates Class is a year-long program designed to identify, educate, motivate, and develop a select group of area citizens for positions of advocacy for Avon Community School Corporation. Participants are selected on the basis of their desire to learn more about Avon Schools, advocate within the community, and demonstrated interest in the community.

The overarching goals of the Oriole Advocate class are that participants:
  • Increase awareness of topics regarding our school district
  • Develop as knowledgeable advocates within our community
  • Engage within the community and the Oriole Advocate organization
  • Attend 6 evening sessions (1 ½ hour each) throughout the school year (3 each semester)

  • Advocacy strategies
  • School finance
  • Legislative process
  • Meet Legislators
  • Meet ACSC Teachers of Year
  • Curriculum & operations in ACSC
  • Special Education, EL Services, and Diversity & Inclusion
  • School safety
  • Other topics of interest
Application Information Participation in each Oriole Advocates class is limited with the goal to represent a balanced geographic and demographic cross-section of Avon Community School Corporation/Washington Township. Participants must live or work in Avon/Washington Township. Applications are carefully reviewed by a committee and notified via email by September 14, 2023.
