2022-23 Science Mentor Program: Mentee Application
The Science Mentor Program connects new students with upper-year volunteer mentors in the Faculty of Science.  Our Science Mentors are there for you before classes begin, and throughout your first academic year! As the mentee, you determine how much guidance you need and which method(s) of engagement is preferred (text, email, in-person, etc.).

The goal of the Science Mentor program is to help new students become thriving members of our campus community. Joining the Science Mentor Program will allow you to:

~ connect to student clubs and join intramural teams,
~ participate in events and volunteer opportunities with peers,
~ gain awareness of faculty-specific and university-wide supports and resources,
~ have direct access to ongoing peer support,
~ learn and benefit from the lived-experiences of others, and,
~ develop confidence in your own abilities as you establish yourself as a post-secondary student at the UofA!

Science Student Mentors have made a big impact in the lives of first year Science students.  Check out perspectives from some of our previous mentees;

“My science mentor showed me ways to get involved by sharing his experience and directing my efforts.”

“My science mentor was an excellent listener, and he was able to connect with me when I was overwhelmed.”

“Being an international student, coming to university in Canada was met with excitement and nervousness. I was very grateful to have a mentor throughout my first year. She was my go-to person! I remember the first day of school when she showed me around campus. She shared study tips, favorite classes, and even her favorite spots to study and eat lunch. I can't thank her enough for everything she's done as my Science Mentor."

Please take a moment to tell us about yourself so we can best 'match' you to your Science Mentor.  Consideration will be given to program, personal interests AND/OR area of study.
