ABOVE RUBIES RETREAT RULES & ETIQUETTE

Above Rubies exists for the purpose of “Strengthening Families Across the World” and we seek to make each retreat a time that aligns with that core value!

By the grace of God, our Laguna retreat has grown by leaps and bounds and along with growth comes a need to clarify standards for behavior during the days we spend together. Above Rubies wishes to foster an atmosphere that focuses on the “One Anothers” of Scripture, all week long!

Please help us maintain unity and harmony by joyfully abiding by the following policies:

(By selecting "I AGREE" you are agreeing to the following policies during our retreat. Individuals/Families that do not honor the policies may be asked to not return to future retreats, or asked to leave the retreat immediately.)

ATTENDANCE AT SESSIONS/BREAK-OUTS

Every family who registers agrees to have ALL family members attend ALL sessions to the best of their abilities. If you just want to vacation at Laguna Beach, please feel free to contact Laguna directly and plan your trip for another time. This week is reserved for those that plan to attend sessions!

CURFEW

Laguna has a noise curfew policy that we must respect in order to be invited back to this amazing facility for future retreats. We also need to honor the noise curfew policy out of respect for Laguna’s neighbors (Laguna is located in a residential neighborhood). No volleyball, basketball, loud outdoor activities, or swimming after 10pm CST.

To encourage attendance at all sessions, Above Rubies has set a FIRM curfew of Midnight for all conference attendees. No one should be outside their room/home after Midnight.

SICKNESS / HONORING OTHER FAMILIES

We have had multiple instances of parents bringing sick children to camp. This has resulted in other children becoming sick and is highly disruptive to camp activities.

If your child has any of the following symptoms please let the Above Rubies Medical Team know AND you may be asked to quarantine your child in your room until the symptoms subside: fever, hacking cough, vomiting (due to sickness, not food), green phlegm running out of their noses, diarrhea (due to sickness, not food).

RESPECT FOR OTHER FAMILY’S PROPERTY & PRIVATE SPACES

At previous retreats there have been multiple instances of children “borrowing” bikes/scooters/ripsticks and not returning them. Some items have been lost permanently. Please communicate with your children that they may not borrow items unless they are given permission by a PARENT from the family who owns that item. Children may not borrow items from other children without a parent’s involvement.

Also, please be mindful of the privacy of other families. Please do not enter another the private spaces of another family unless expressly invited. This includes porches and pools (if a house has a pool).

EACH PARENT IS RESPONSIBLE TO SUPERVISE YOUNG CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES

We have had instances of parents allowing very young children to roam the campus unattended during sessions. This creates safety and legal issues for Laguna and Above Rubies. Please keep your young child children (age 7 or younger) with you in the sessions, or drop them off at the provided childcare, or delegate their supervision to a responsible person.

MODESTY

Bathing suits and clothing need to be modest, which means covering private parts of the body. An example of a modest bathing suit for women is a one piece or a 2 piece consisting of a tankini style top and non-spandex bottoms. Bikinis are not welcome at this retreat and shorts need to cover more than just your bottom (there should be ample thigh coverage). Please do not wear spandex shorts for swimming or playing sports. Form fitting clothes that cling closely to private parts are a distraction and should not be worn, unless covered by a looser fitting garment. If you are new to modest bathing wear, reach out to ladies in the Above Rubies Signal chat (they can recommend sites and resources for buying modest suits). Men and boys need to be wearing a shirt at all times on campus, unless they are in the pool.

TEENS AND YOUNG SINGLES

Any single young person attending the retreat MUST be under the authority of a family that has agreed to be responsible for their safety throughout the week AND their attendance during sessions. Teens/Young Singles must follow all rules and policies of the retreat. Every teen or young single attending without their parent must register and pay separately. All registrations will need to be approved by leadership, you will be fully refunded if it is decided that this is not the best retreat for you.

DANCING

Attendees of this retreat hold a variety of views on dancing. In past years there has been disunity over this topic. Some have been offended by what they view as worldly dance parties. Others have planned secret dance parties after leadership requested they not do so. There are many activities we can enjoy together that do not bring disunity, but dancing is not one of those activities at this time. We will not have any dancing at this year’s retreat, other than appropriate dancing before the Lord that may occur during corporate worship times (2 Samuel 6).

WE LOOK FORWARD TO A GLORIOUS TIME OF FUN AND FELLOWSHIP TOGETHER!!

Meals
We are offering a meal plan of 6 healthy and hearty dinners (salad bar offered at each meal) for $30 per person, ages 3 years and up. Breakfast and lunch will be on your own. Payment is due by March 1st, and is non-refundable.

Thank you for joining us,  we are looking forward to an amazing retreat with you!
