Fresno Turkey Trot is the ONLY non-profit Turkey Trot in the Fresno/Clovis Area.

Not just your donations, ALL OF THE NET PROCEEDS... Registration and Donations are distributed to our beneficiaries, SCE Scholarships, and other SCE Charitable Giving.  Our beneficiaries this year are the Poverello House, The Fresno Mission, and the Central California Food Bank.  Every year, we also donate $1000 per team to several High School Cross Country teams that volunteer on race morning.
The Original Fresno Turkey Trot

The Fresno Turkey Trot has been at Woodward Park since 1999.

The Fresno Turkey Trot was started in 1999 by Shawn Young and Michael Sanchez, after they started Sierra Running Co, now Fleet Feet. Their goal was to use the 5k course used by the state meet on the Sat following Thanksgiving.

In 2004 Shawn moved to DC area and asked John Volkman to be race director. He was race director from 2004-2017. One of the new traditions that Shawn started was to give out socks instead of t-shirts which John thought was a great idea and continued it throughout the years. They started with orange on white and then black socks one year. John got TNT involved and used the purple/green theme. Then we went to a blue on yellow theme. The race had a few hundred people when John took over and the club increased that number to over 2000.

Another goal of the race was to raise money to provide turkey meals to families and to give scholarship money to local runners going to college. We also had a tradition of having a costume contest with prizes for the best costumes and prizes to the largest groups.

Jose Campos won it in 2014.  CJ Albertson won the race in 2015 when he was at ASU. He won again in 2016. His future wife, Chelsea also won it that year.

Sierra Challenge Express has continued to operate the Fresno Turkey Trot since John Volkman retired.  With numbers aproaching 3500 before COVID and 2500 each year for the past two years raising significant funds to feed the hungry during this holiday season and supporting our High School Cross Country athletes.

Incredible Swag

The Board of Sierra Challenge Express decided to spice up the swag this year including age group awards for the 5k, a huge 4" finisher's medal, longsleve "dri-fit" t-shirt, and a personal pie.  It is also part of a Holiday Run Series including the Clovis Rudolph Run and the Clovis New Year's Day 5k.
Youth Pricing
  • Children 4 and under are FREE (shirt is not included)
  • Chideren 5-12 are only $25
Transfer and Refund Policy
The Clovis Turkey Day Run, a for-profit race started by a former Sierra Challenge Express board member, does not offer refunds or transfers to other races...  Which is actually standard practice for 5k runs.  We have had many emails from people who registered in Clovis thinking they were registering for the originial Turkey Trot which they had done in previous years.

In order to accommodate participants that want to run with family or friends we have a special program to allow people who have signed up for another Thanksgiving run and can not get a refund, to run at the Fresno Turkey Trot for the cost of the shirt and medal, (with proof of registration at the other race). This also counts towards the Holiday Run Series including the Clovis Rudolph Run and Clovis New Year's Day 5k.

Please fill out the form below including the registration id from your email confirmation from the other race and we will email you a code to register for only $15. Please complete a seperate form for each person.
