The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute (SKERI) is seeking applications for its inaugural Summer Research Institute June 19th-June 30th in San Francisco. This program is designed to provide training for blind and visually impaired students and recent graduates interested in learning skills that will prepare them to participate in research careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) within industry, government, non-profit organizations or academia. Support for participants will include accommodation near Smith-Kettlewell and funding for travel to and from San Francisco. A Limited number of scholarships will also be available to cover daily expenses such as meals.

In order to tailor the program to the topics that are most useful, we are asking everyone to fill out the short form below. The application will close April 15th, 2023 and notification of topic selection for the two week long program will be completed by May 1st to give everyone time to make travel arrangements to San Francisco. We cannot guarantee to meet all needs this year so, if your topic is not picked for the 2023 institute, we will consider you for participation in a future program.

To help us design this year’s summer institute program, we are asking all applicants to list three skills they would like to focus on, e.g. programming, statistics, writing for research, etc.

You should list skills that you feel would help you progress in your current or planned education or employment.
