INTRODUCTION: We continue our Lesson 3 with your "Receive the Lord" booklet.  The "Receive the Lord" booklet will help you to prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. The booklet will focus on the creation of a first Communion banner as a way for you to understand and remember all the amazing things that you will experience when you receive Jesus in holy Communion. So, if you have located your book, we are ready to go! First start by reading pages 8, 9 and 10 then answer the questions below. HINT: Remember to look in your readings for the answers.
When we thank God for our family, we sometimes use the word "family" to mean every family member,  all the good things they do and all the love our family has for one another. *
In the same way, we can use other symbols, such as _______________ and ___________, to stand for the many gifts God has given us? *
Jesus used wheat, grapes, fruits, seeds, vines and other images to tell stories called parables. These parables helped people understand his _______________? *
The second part of the Mass is called the ________________ __ ___ __________________? *
At Mass, the priest prepares the gifts of bread and wine to offer them to God so that they can become the __________ and ___________ of Jesus? *
We kneel at the holiest part of the Mass during the Eucharistic Prayer, when the bread and wine becomes ______________ body and blood? *
WORD PUZZLE!! Now it's time to challenge yourself on finding a word that means "Thanksgiving." Turn to page 9 in your "Receive the Lord" booklet.  Start by completing the words to the prayer we say during the Mass at the "Invitation to Prayer," and placing those words in the correct spaces on the puzzle. I have included a copy of the prayer for you to use. When you are done filling in the puzzle, take the letters in blue and see if you can unscramble them to find a word that means "Thanksgiving!" Good luck and don't forget to send me a picture of your completed work when you are done!
What word did you find that means "Thanksgiving?" *
FANTASTIC JOB!! Every time we go to Mass or visit a Catholic Church where Jesus is inside the tabernacle, God is physically with us in the Eucharist. The word Eucharist means "thanksgiving:" we are thankful to have God with us always.

The Eucharistic Prayer is the most important part of the Mass because this is when Jesus comes to be with us. This is when the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus. During the Eucharistic Prayer we thank God for his friendship and for coming once again through the Eucharist to share his life with us!
FIRST COMMUNION BANNER: Now you are ready to continue building your First Communion banner.  On page 8 of your booklet, you are asked to add the wheat and grapes as a symbol of God's gifts (see my example below).

These symbols of wheat and grapes remind us of God's gifts: the food we eat, the earth we live on, the people we love and even the bodies we have been given. In a way, they also remind us of God's greatest gift: his son Jesus. Don't forget to send me a picture as you continue to fill in your banner!!
FAMILY TIME CHART: Super job! Now it is time to work on your "Family Time" chart. Our Lesson 3 chart focuses on gathering people together. One of the best ways to show love and make friends is to do activities together. Jesus made friends even with people others didn't like such as Zacchaeus. He gathered people together for meals. Jesus calls us who follow him to reach out to others, to cheer them up, to include them in our fun, and to share. Take some time to think about and complete the chart included in your First Eucharist Family Time sheet. Then be sure to send me a picture of your completed work!!
SUPER GREAT JOB! You have  finished your second lesson in your sacramental prep journey and are doing a great job!! I want you to remember that the Eucharist is the center of our lives!  The Sacrament of the Eucharist unites us with Jesus Christ and to one another. We will continue to learn more about this celebration as we continue our lessons!
