Family and Friends - Hoarding Explained
If you have family or friends that have a problem with hoarding issues - being able to understand why they do what they do - so that you can keep your relationship intact - is crucial.

Hoarding is a complex issue. It can't be solved in a one hour seminar - but it's a start to understanding that there is more to it than just "the stuff". It's what's underneath. There are many reasons that people hoard. It's an isolating and rarely talked about problem.

People with hoarding issues need and want their family members or friends support. You don't have to approve of how they live. Being able to separate the person from the hoarding behavior is a start.

As a Professional Organizer and an Advanced Hoarding Specialist I work with people that have issues with chronic disorganization and hoarding. I work with clients all over the USA and Internationally. I also teach the "Buried in Treasures" work group - a 16-week class - which is based on the work of Drs. Tolin, Frost and Steketee - the leading experts on Hoarding.  I also teach an 8-week class - "Getting Unburied and Moving Forward"  - which is a condensed version of the 16-week class - for people that aren't able to  commit to a 16-week class. The class takes the most important parts of the 16-week class and gets you started on understanding the complexities of hoarding issues and how to start "moving forward". Email for more details.

This program is not a "therapy group".  It is a seminar (support group/coaching group) that was designed to help people who have family or friends with hoarding issues - understand some of the reasons behind the hoarding and how to interact with them.  The facilitator of the group is not a therapist - but a Professional Organizer and Advanced Hoarding Specialist through the Institute for Challenging Disorganization (ICD) and also a Certified Life Coach. She has over 15 years of experience in working with people with Chronic Disorganization and Hoarding issues. *
Besides exploring some of the reasons behind why people have issues with chronic disorganization and hoarding  - the workshop will focus on practical solutions that will help you deal with your family member or friend so that the relationship does not deteriorate any more and you gain a better understanding of the complexities of hoarding. The main focus of the group will not be a place where we delve into the complex and personal issues of each participant - though participants can share as much or as little as they are comfortable sharing. *
