Using a personal electronic device in school is a privilege and can be revoked at any time.

Use of a personal electronic device in school is optional.

The personal electronic device will be used at the CSD staffs discretion. The school reserves the right to inspect a student's personal device if there is reason to believe that the student has violated Board policies, administrative procedures, school rules or has engaged in other misconduct while using their personal device.

A device may be confiscated if it becomes a disruption/distraction to the learning environment and returned to the parent should the need arise.

Posting or transmitting recorded images or video shall be limited to that which is related to school assignments and projects, and shall only be done in accordance with the district Internet Acceptable/Appropriate Use policy.

The district is not responsible for any items damaged, lost, destroyed or stolen while children attend school or any school-related activity or are on a school bus.

Parent agrees to hold the district harmless in the event of damage or theft, and should be mindful of this when choosing to bring a personal item to school.

Use of the personal electronic device* will follow the Terms of Agreement as set forth in the Columbia School District Board of Education Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement which was previously signed by both my child and his/her parent or legal guardian. Understand that this agreement can be modified at any time and a new agreement would need to be signed.

In order to comply with Federal regulations, all student-owned devices will also be subject to district Internet filtering policies while in school and while using the school network.

Students using their own data access plan are not filtered. Please note that the student's failure to comply with the aforementioned guidelines may result in discipline as deemed appropriate by school administration.

*A personal electronic device is any electronic communication device that can be used for instructional purposes (i.e., electronic reader, laptop, tablet, cell phone, iPad, and similar electronic devices.)
