Welcome to the Edge (Player Form)
Setting :
A world phyiscally devided into 3 shards held together by mysterious gravitational magics, the cracks are extreemly perlious to approach or cross, though not impossible, this has lead to each shard devoloping its own ecology, religious and political systems amoung other seperations, the southern most shard is where we find ourselves, a colder climate than the remaining shards, ranging from livable on its outer areas to extreemly hostile cold biomes at its southern most point.
On the edge of this shard is a city, large and multicultural but strained by class, new attuitdes and values. Everything can be brought and sold for a price here, as the shards largest trade hub, however things have become more unsettled in recent years, whispers of prophecy of the coming age and myths of the end are spoken of in taverns, amoung the gentry it is suggested the city is slowly being distabalised to aid in the bringing about the 'seperation' which is assumed to be the release of this shard from its borther and sister but this is speculation and no real evidence exists... at least none that is known of.
System :
At the moment 5e D&D (the rules system is very far from ideal but it is the most ubiquitous system for better or worse) with some house rules, this is a homebrewed setting with elements injected in from curated adventures from 2nd - 5e D&D. This leaves potential for huge shifts in design and lore dependant on player choices.
Sources :
All official sources are considered, most of the PHB is completely fine, bar dragonborn and underdark races, other sources can be discussed on a case by case basis to see how they fit within the world, if you wish to play a race with dragonborn or underdark statistics it is possible however they will have a different genesis and background to these races as they are described within the PHB
Tools and Resources :
Discord - Chat, Audio and Video
D&D Beyond - [if 5e] Source books and content sharing
Foundry VTT - Virtual tabletop
-Will need a decent connection as there will be some 3D scenes used for combat, mostly in BBEG fights and fights with a lot of verticality.
World Anvil - Setting information
Running Styles and Conventions :
Try to keep combat flowing
-Know your spells and abilities, make sure you macros/sheet work before games (I can help with this)
-Set up your rolls to record hit and damage at the same time
PvP is not encouraged, will be Roleplayed out if it occurs.
Adventure and overcoming obstacles is paramount. More about story less about winning.
Killing people is not common in the world, causing someones death without due cause can have major consequences.
Moments of dispair and darkness will be introduced to allow heroic moments and characters to shine.
Callbacks to relationships forged by characters.
Strive for rule and narrative cosistancy.
Character downtime and RP elements will be encouraged.
Actively welcome RP goals and sub-plot ideas for your characters.
Active feedback via anonymous forms to incorporate more to the taste of the players.
Sessions to run bi-weekly (2 times monthly), day and time TBD.
Homebrew Elements (at the time of writing):
Hidden death saves (only player rolling and DM to see the roll)
Barbarians intimidating presence based on CHA or STR
Help action can be used to assist out of encounters as long as both people have proficiency.
1 level of exhaustion gained on first failed death save.
5 foot step only without attack of opportunity while within an enemies reach
Flanking providing advantage when an ally is directly opposite side of target from attacking player
Table (VTT) Rules :
Interesting conflict is fine (and at somepoints encouraged), Evil characters have to have justification that makes sense, no 'agents of chaos'.
One roll per task/outcome, no chaining retries.
'Tales by the campfire' may be used in game.
Push actions allowed after setting the stakes for failure.
Keep off turn tactical disscussions to a minimum, giving advice is fine just dont stall combat to lay out an entire battle plan.
As much as possible avoid negative metagaming (greasing the wheels or using meta knowledge to create positive/dramatice experience is fine), Rules lawyering too much - if a rules call is given by the DM please accept it until the combat is finished, we can then discuss it afterwards.
Be courteous, let others talk and share the spotlight.
Honor system - no cheating!
Hitpoints - Take average or roll 'at the table', decided on every level up, no re-rolls
