What actually is a VAP?
Grad programs and tenure-track jobs vary enormously from field to field and institution to institution, but visiting assistant professor (VAP) positions may be the wildest card of them all. There isn't even one coherent term for them within the US, let alone globally, but we're talking about full-time, non-permanent/tenure-track, teaching-focused academic positions where people are hired by the academic year. What does that look like in practice, though?
