Class Expectations:
Be on time and prepared. Each student will be expected to be in his or her seat and working on the warm up when the bell rings. Any student not in their desk when the bell rings will be marked tardy.

Listen and Follow directions the first time. Students should be respectfully listening to whoever is giving instruction/information. This includes the teacher, announcements, and other student presentation.

Respect yourself, others and lab equipment. No put-downs are allowed in this class. Students should respect the property of other students, the teacher, and school property. This includes language used in class and attitudes towards the teacher or other students.

Follow all safety rules. If a student fails to follow correct safety procedures in the lab, the students will be immediately removed from the lab area (no warnings).

Attendance, Tardies and Citizenship:
The attendance and tardy policy of Sand Ridge Jr. High will be followed in my class. Refer to these policies on the school’s website.

Cell Phones, iPods, and Other Electronic Devices:
The use of cellphones, earbuds, headphones or any other electronic devices is prohibited in my classroom. Please refer to the student handbook for policy.

Required Materials:
3 Ring binder (one inch) with paper dedicated to science only.
Pen or Pencil

Assignments:
Generally, all assignments will be done in class. Assignments will be graded within a week of being turned in and recorded in the grade book.. If not turned in on time, the grade for the assignment will result in a zero until turned in. Once turned in, it will be graded on its quality and correctness.

Makeup work:
Students are allowed the number of days they were absent to make up the assignment before entering a zero in the gradebook. However, if students need more time due to work from other classes, arrangements can be made on case-by-case basis.

Late Work:
Late work will be accepted up until two days before the end of the midterm or quarter.  If not turned in by then, it will remain a zero in the grade book. There will be no penalties for turning work in late, however, science fair is the only project I do expect on time. Late work must be turned in on your own time not in the middle of class.

Cheating:
Any student(s) caught or showing intent of cheating, enabling cheating or guilty of plagiarism will result in a zero for the assignment and will receive an automatic U for citizenship. The assignment CANNOT be made up. Parent or guardian will be notified, and the student(s) may also be subject to possible school action.

Test and Quizzes:
Test can be challenging for some students, so I  do allow students to retake their test if they wish. To retake a test, students must complete a “retake assignment” to review key concepts. Once completed and turned in,  students will be given a retake test, and I will input the best score into the gradebook.

End of the Year Final:
At the end of the year, a comprehensive final will be given to determine proficiency over all of the material covered this year. This will be included as part of 4th quarter grade. For parents and students who wish, the RISE assessment at the end of the year can be used to fulfill this testing requirement instead of the final. A child’s score of a 3 or 4 OR if they get a better score than they did last year,  they will not have to take my final, as I can use their RISE score in the gradebook. If you would like your child to utilize this accommodation, please check the opt in box on the signature page. By not opting in, this does not remove your child from sage testing, to do that, you must contact the school. Not opting in, means regardless of the score your child gets on RISE, they will need to take my final test and that score will be entered into the gradebook

Grades:
Grades will be updated online, but you may contact me via email, and before or after school with any questions about your grade.

I do take pictures and videos during labs, however, if you prefer not to have your child’s picture taken please specify below. *
