Ministry of Education Principals' Well Being Fund
Te Mahau has made a sum of money available to Auckland Principals to support their well being. APPA is supporting Te Mahau in the distribution of these funds.  Stipends of $2000 are available for Principals to apply for. If you are interested in applying for a stipend to support your well being, please complete the form below. Please note, Principals who received the ‘Wellbeing support funding for first-time principals (May 2022) and private schools are not eligible for this fund.

Well Being Fund Criteria
There are three categories from which Principals can apply.
1. Ease immediate workload pressures
  1. Additional staffing bringing in administration support or pay for additional release time
2. Invest in building leadership capabilities
  1. Coaching/mentoring in-person/virtual coaching or mentoring 
  2. Access professional learning opportunities that assist with enhancing principals’ leadership          capabilities
  3. Connect with peers organise/participate in peer learning activities online/in person
3. Invest in wellbeing culture of your staff/school community
  1. Staff development provide training for staff members on wellbeing related topics
  2. Team culture organise facilitated sessions delivered to your staff 

Application Considerations - Helpful Dos & Don'ts
1. Criteria One: Easing Workload Pressures
DO:
  1. Employ an admin person short-term or pay relief teachers or release time for principal to free up time for important leadership work
DON’T:
  1. Employ support person for longer than you have funding for
2. Criteria Two: Invest In Building Leadership Capability
DO:
  1. Get a coach to help with change management training or resilience training
  2. Attend Health & Safety/mental health related courses
  3. Attend principal conferences or access events to share experiences and ideas with peers (travel, accommodation, event costs) 
DON’T:
  1. Pay for gym membership
  2. Pay for petrol cost for commute
3. Criteria Three: Invest in wellbeing culture of your staff/school community
DO:
  1. Resilience, building positive workplace culture
  2. Building positive relationships
  3. Building school culture,
  4. Team building activities provided they clearly demonstrate a work-related element
DON’T:
  1. Pay for the Christmas party
  2. Use it for PLD that is part of BAU


Application Timeline
1. Only one application per Principal will be accepted

2. Applications should be for one criteria only

3. Applications close on Friday December 9 at 12:00pm

4. Applications will be considered by the APPA Executive on Monday December 12

5. Successful applicants will be informed by no later than Wednesday December 14

6. The APPA Executive will produce a spreadsheet for the MoE itemising;
      a) Who has been awarded a Principal Well Being stipend
      b) How the funds have dispersed
      c) What the funds will be used for

7. The APPA will inform the MoE of the successful applicants and funds will deposited by Te Mahau via Pourato early in 2023.

8. Successful applicants will be required to provide a brief summary detailing how the funds were used.  A bullet point summary will be adequate.
