MATE ROV

Discover ocean engineering through participation in the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) ROV program to creatively apply STEM principles in the exciting field of underwater robotics. In this year-long program, high school students will design and build remotely operated vehicles (ROV)s to tackle missions modeled after real-world scenarios in the ocean workplace. The program includes regional and international competitions (if qualified).

This AMSE program requires a high-level of commitment and attendance at all program sessions. Students who apply must be willing to make this program their first priority when scheduling any other extracurricular activities, including other AMSE, BEI, Athletics, or Conservatory programs.

Participation in MATE ROV will fulfill the AMSE Research Project requirement for AMSE Honors and Honors Fellow students.

GENERAL AMSE INFORMATION

The majority of AMSE programs meet weekly and require a minimum of 2-5 hours of student commitment. Program fees for the MATE ROV Program will be billed after school begins in the fall and are non-refundable. Additional fees may be required for local field trips and overnight travel expenses. Students may only participate in 2 AMSE programs per semester.

Students applying to an AMSE Program must be an AMSE Member or AMSE Honors participant.

Access the High School Member/Honors application here. Current AMSE Members and Honors students need only register once - your membership is good through graduation.

SELECTION PROCESS

The demand for AMSE programs is high and the selection process varies between programs. While we strive to accommodate as many students as possible, placement is not guaranteed. When program enrollment is impacted, priority will be assigned to the grade levels required to ensure diversity in ages. This provides continuity of team knowledge for future years.

The MATE ROV Program Manager will review all student applications and will conduct interviews and may utilize the MATE ROV student leaders as part of the dialogue. Selection criteria will include a student's course schedule, previous program experience, responses to the application questions, and the needs of the team. Additionally, some consideration will be given to grade levels to ensure diversity in ages. This provides continuity of team knowledge for future years. Status notification will be sent by August 2024.
