What is Community Service?

Community Service is volunteer work you do for others and/or your community. If you get paid or receive a gift for your community service you can not count the hours towards your required 18 hours of community service for AJHS. Community service is volunteer work you do to give back to others and/or our local community without compensation. Note watching a younger sibling or child does not count as volunteering.

Examples of Organizations and Community Service/Volunteering Activities:

- Alcona County 4-H
- Alcona County Commission on Aging/Senior Center
- Alcona Community Garden
- Alcona Middle/High School Recycling (done during the school day)
- Alcona Humane Society
- Adopt-A-Highway Clean-up
- Food pantry and student closet (done during the school day)
- Helping a Teacher
- Recycle Alcona
- Tutor or help someone with homework
- Shoveling snow, raking leaves, and/or mowing your neighbors lawn
- Sports/Athletic Volunteering (capped at 10 hours per sport, practice does not count)

If you have any questions or need help getting your 18 hours of community service contact Mrs. Cordes. Your community service by must be completed by June 1st. Remember, to be on track for your hours you should get 2 hours of community service per month (September - May).
