Technology Workshops

Parent University Technology is a series of remote learning sessions introducing parents to the basics of the most common applications used by teachers in remote learning.  Each session is conducted via Zoom and will last one hour with additional time for questions and answers.  Attendees need not attend all sessions.  They may choose which ones are relevant to them.  Access to a Chromebook is not required.  However, it will be helpful for session 1.

Session 1: Chromebooks, Google Chrome & Google Drive
Learn your way around the Chromebook including tips and tricks for common tasks and basic troubleshooting.  Gain an understanding of Google Drive, how to find files, organize, and locate lost files and versions.                                                                                                                                Date:  Wednesday, September 14, 2022    Time: 7-8 p.m.
   
Session 2: Google Classroom & Google Meet
Become a student in a working Google Classroom.  Learn how to navigate, submit different types of assignments, manage due dates, adjust notification settings, and locate previous work.  During the session, the class will move to a Google Meet where you’ll learn how to present your screen and change your  view.                                                                Date: Wednesday, September 21, 2022    Time: 7-8 p.m.

Session 3: G Suite
Explore the ins and outs of Google Docs, Slides, Drawings and Jamboard including creating new documents, formatting, and inserting elements.   Date: Wednesday, September 28, 2022    Time: 7-8 p.m.

Session 4:  App Mash
Flipgrid, Nearpod, Kami, Classlink…what does it all mean?  Tour different education technology apps and learn what they do so you know what your student is talking about and can help them complete assignments.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Workshops

Facilitated by Debbie Salitsky, LCSW
Parent University SEL is a series of remote learning sessions providing information, awareness, suggestions and guidance on common issues being faced by our families today.  Each session is conducted via Zoom and will last one hour with additional time for questions and answers.  Attendees need not attend all sessions.  They may choose which ones are relevant to them.  
Session 1: How to Help Your Anxious/Depressed Child/Adolescent    
More and more children and adolescents are exhibiting signs of anxiety and depression. Parents may feel ill-equipped to handle these emotional struggles. This two-part workshop will identify signs of anxiety and depression while incorporating supportive suggestions.
Part 1 - Date:   Monday September 12, 2022       Time:   7-8 P.M.
Part 2 - Date:   Monday September 19, 2022       Time:   7-8 P.M.

Session 2: How to Identify Harmful Behaviors  
Children and adolescents may exhibit harmful behaviors such as bullying, cyberbullying, self-harm, drug/alcohol addiction, eating disorders or suicidal ideation. This workshop will increase awareness about these red flags and provide supportive suggestions.

Session 3: Understanding the Risks of Technology/Video Game Addiction    
Technology or video game addiction negatively affects children and teens. Learn the risks involved and ways to reduce screen addiction.
Date:  Monday,  October 17, 2022         Time:   7-8 P.M.
