Hello Current 4th Grade Families!

We are excited to once again offer BAND to our 5th Grade Students at all Flushing Elementary Schools.

Please fill out this band registration/interest form so we can stay connected over the summer and guide you through the process. We will send you resources to look at over the summer and very important information on how band will look in the fall as we iron out the details.

WHY JOIN BAND?  -  "We make more than just music"

1) Band teaches DESIREABLE worker skills. The ONLY way a band works is TOGETHER. There is no bench. EVERYONE performs and affects each person in the group. We learn GROUP DYNAMICS and TEAMWORK. Band is so much more than making music. Our program focuses on developing THE WHOLE CHILD and we luckily get to use MUSIC to teach these important skills.

3) College Readiness - I know it's REALLY early to start thinking about this. But a major factor in college admissions is a student's involvement in staple activities. A complete experience in band is a very positive factor for college admissions status. People know how awesome band kids are - and they are desirable by colleges!

4) Music is LIFE LONG - Your student can make music for a lifetime. They don't have to engage in a musical career to have the benefits of music study.

7) FAMILY - Band is a family environment. We create a safe spot for kids to be themselves and accept them as they are. Some of your student's BEST relationships will develop because of participation in band!

We offer the following instruments for 5th/6th Grade Band:

Flute
Clarinet
Alto Saxophone
Trumpet
Trombone

Mallet Percussion - Because this section requires a specific set of skills. You’ll need to contact Mr. Davis @ brad.davis@flushingschools.org and set up a percussion fitting (June 21, 22, 23). We will only accept a small amount of percussion students into the section and they will begin on xylophone, marimba, and glockenspiel.

Band Schedule

5th Grade Band is held before school - 2 days/week - Mondays & Wednesdays: Rehearsals begin at 8:00AM.

Trumpet/Trombone - Flushing Middle School - Mr. Fontan

Flute/Clarinet/Alto Saxophone/Mallet Percussion - Flushing High School - Mr. Davis

The students enter and exit the building from the band rooms and are not in the general population of either school for any amount of time.

Students can be transported by their parents (can be dropped off as early as 7:30AM) or ride district buses on the secondary busing route to attend band. They are then transported to their elementary schools on buses to start their normal school day. More information on busing will be sent the week or two prior to school starting in the fall.

Students who utilize Latch Key can also get a shuttle bus to band from Latch Key.
