育種の過程で得られる様々なデータを活用した効率的な育種（データ駆動型育種）を実現するためには、得られるデータを動的、かつ、統合的に管理できるシステムの構築が不可欠である。

「ビッグデータ」や「人工知能」という言葉が様々なメディアで頻出する今日ではあるが、実際の育種の現場では、ビッグデータの収集やそれに基づく解析が自ずと進む状況にはない。育種現場では、常に新たな材料が提供されるため、品種データベースのような静的で独立したシステムではなく、動的で統合的なシステム（例えば、実験計画、データ収集・蓄積、血縁データの管理、マーカー選抜支援、交配・選抜計画などを、動的かつ統合的に行えるシステム）の利用が必要となる。

本シンポジウムは、こうしたシステムの開発に向けた世界的な動向を把握し、かつ、開発に向けた世界的な協働の道を探ることを目的としてこうしたシステム開発を先導している研究者に現況と展望について話題提供をお願いする。

In order to realize efficient breeding utilizing various data obtained in a breeding process ("data-driven breeding"), it is essential to build a system that can manage the obtained data dynamically and in an integrated manner. Today, the words “big data” and “artificial intelligence” appear frequently in various media, but in actual breeding programs, collection of big data and analysis based on the data are not in progress. Because new materials are constantly provided to a breeding program, not static and independent systems, such as a cultivar/line database, but dynamic and integrated systems are necessary. The main objective of this symposium is to understand the global trends towards the development of such systems and to explore the ways of global collaboration for the development. We will invite researchers who are leading the system development and ask them to provide topics on the current situation and future prospects.
