Hiram Johnson has been benefiting from the School Improvement Grant (SIG) for the past 5 years. The grant will end on June 30, 2021. We are seeking input from all stakeholders to identify which of the SIG funded services should remain a priority and be included in our 2021-22 budget utilizing other available categorical funding sources.
Below are several positions that were funded out of SIG. Please prioritize each position for the 2021-22 budget.
Student Support Center Staff (Coordinator at 0.8 FTE, management position and School Social Worker at 1 FTE, classified position) The Support Center provides: confidential mental health services and support for school, home and personal issues; crisis assistance (for suicide risk and other safety concerns, homelessness/evictions, grief and loss, relationship conflicts/break-ups, and help accessing food and other urgent basic needs); free school supplies, backpacks, clothing, personal care hygiene supplies; suicide prevention presentations; and coordination of campus events that bring large groups of students together to foster a safe, caring campus community. *
Bilingual Resource Teacher (1 FTE, certificated position) Coordinate services for English Learners (ELs): facilitate English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC) meetings, attend District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC) and School Site Council (SSC) meetings, promote family engagement through ELAC, DELAC, SSC and PTSA, provide bilingual services to families, facilitate professional development for teachers of ELs, coordinate English Language Proficiency Assessment of CA (ELPAC) and monitor ELs progress, support ELs with World Language Challenge Test, assess ELs credits towards graduation (AB2121) and Seal of Biliteracy on diploma. *
Campus Monitors (additional 1.375 FTE above district allocated monitors) *
Learning Support Coordinator (1 FTE, management position) works in the School Climate Office focus primarily on implementation of programs for a safe and positive campus. Provides the following support: leads the school safety committee and collaborates with the Assistant Principal to implement the Comprehensive School Safety Plan, provides positive student behavior interventions for discipline through SEL and Restorative Practices, outreach and behavior support meetings with families, and coordinates mentorship programs for at-risk students. *
College and Career Technician (1 FTE, classified position)  Operates the College & Career Center equipped with computers, internet and printers for students and families to utilize. Provides the following services to students: college and scholarship applications, FAFSA, DACA, resumes development, job applications, work permits, vocational education applications, coordinates activities with colleges/universities and community programs, and organizes college field trips. *
