Rowing Vacations Sign-Up and Detailed Info
Welcome to Your Rowing Vacation!

If you are reading this page, you’ve decided to sign up for a week of fun and hard work with us.  We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of who we are and why we are here, as well as have you read some of that legal stuff that is in vogue these days.

Here’s who we are:

Enzo Ademollo, head coach, has decades of experience coaching rowers of all ages. He founded the San Miniato Rowing Club twenty five years ago and has continued to grow it every year, adding Olympic athletes and Special Olympians to a growing mix of youths and masters.

Eliza Camp, a native English speaker with years of living in Italy and co-founder of our camp, studied under wooden boat building master Graeme King and in the winter restores boats and sooner or later will get back to building them once her triplets get a bit bigger. She rowed in high school in Seattle and for McGill University in Montreal. She is also a certified coach under the Italian Rowing Federation. She is your main contact person and daily leader of activities.

Rowingvacations.com is the travel outreach arm of the San Miniato Rowing Club (Canottieri San Miniato ASD), and your payments will be directed there. Our vacations help fund the daily life of a small but growing rowing club! We are NOT a travel agency or a tour operator, we are rowers offering temporary membership in our local club, instruction, and it is our pleasure to show you around our world. When we are outside of San Miniato, we may collaborate with tour operator "Dal Canto" in order to comply with Italian travel legislation. Dal Canto is also owned by a rower though so rest assured you will always be in great (callused) hands!

Here’s what we do:

We started Terralba Rowing Vacations (later terralbatoscana.it and then RowingVacations.com) about 20 years ago in order to be able to share our twin passions: rowing and travel.  You’ll have already read about our weeks on our website so you know roughly what we do, and you can also expect to take advantage of the multiple fairs, markets, and open-air shows that abound in this season, as well as regattas that may be of interest to you all to watch.  For this reason we ask you to be flexible - for example one day we might row twice to be able to spend the next day traveling to a farther attraction.  Or the group may decide to skip a workout entirely for the same reason. We try to guarantee the activities not quantitatively, but qualitatively. Please also check out our Facebook page for frequent updates. (facebook.com/rowingvacations)

Our weeks (except Row Like a Local) include:
7 days and 7 nights (from noon on the first day to noon on the last day)
Breakfast and lunch on the days we are together, on the first day and last day according to airport schedule
6 rowing sessions, weather permitting.  All coaching, boats, fees, and access to boat clubs
Transportation to and from the local airport or train stations (within the hours of 8 am to 8 pm) and all transportation during your stay

Cost does not include:
Airfare (please request help with this if needed)
Travel & health insurance (health insurance is mandatory, please send us a copy of certificate or instructions on whom to contact if you are injured)
Personal purchases such as souvenirs
Telephone calls and internet use
Some more costly museum entries and other leisure activities such as massages, agreed upon in advance
Dinners (but we'll make sure you have lots of options)

All activities and schedules are subject to change at the discretion of the coaches due to weather or other conditions that prove unsafe to travelers, as well to take better advantage of local activities that might be of greater interest, such as fairs or cultural events.  In the event an activity is cancelled, every effort will be made to reschedule or replace it with equally acceptable activities and any changes will be clearly communicated and discussed with travelers.

Lodgings & Group Size
We strive for groups of 4-8 people but if cancellations occur we do not usually cancel the whole week, as often airfare has already been purchased. The best way to ensure your favorite group size is to convince your crewmates, spouses, or children to come with you!  We will be staying in anything from charming farmstays to town hotels, these will be discussed in advance with you.
Safety Stuff
Participants are responsible for determining if the trip is suitable for their athletic ability, fitness level, and state of health, and advising us of any medical or dietary problems (such as allergies) or restrictions prior to booking a trip. Participants are responsible for informing themselves of all passport, visa, and health requirements in relation to their trip and making sure all required documents are in proper order and taken with them on their trip. Participants are responsible for checking in for flights at the correct time. Participants must also sign and submit a Release of Liability and Assumption of All Risk Form and a Personal Information Form prior to departure. Participants are required to respect the laws and customs of countries visited and follow environmental guidelines and regulations while on the trip in accordance with the direction of their guides.

Italian Law requires a certificate of good fitness to be a member if a sports club. Please email us a copy of a similar document you may have from your country, and/or a copy of your local club and national federation memberships.

What to Bring & Arrival Info
Comfortable clothes and shoes for walking around, including at least one pair of shoes that can handle a non-paved surface like a light hiking trail or country walk.  A bathing suit… even in winter there are hot springs to try!  And rowing clothes of course, which means: fitted garments that can allow for full body movement, such as Lycra shorts or pants, fitted elastic tops, or whatever you habitually use.  Many guests try to blend in with a more European look...we appreciate the consideration but make sure you are also comfortable.

Where to arrive: TUSCANY: All guests for our Tuscany trips will be met in either Florence or Pisa (preferred).  We do NOT recommend arriving in Milan and then taking the train, though from Rome that IS possible, if a bit complicated.  SPECIAL TRIPS: For other trips it will be indicated on the specific page where to arrive.

Liability and Cancellations
Because of the inherent risks involved with any type of travel and/or sport, all participants are must read and sign a "Release of Liability" and "Assumption of All Risk Form" waiver upon arrival.  The Canottieri San Miniato ASD assumes no liability for bodily injury or property damage as a result of, but not limited to physical exertion for which a traveler is not prepared; forces of nature, civil unrest, terrorism, illegal activity or acts of God; drowning in melted chocolate; travel by plane, train, auto, boat, bicycle or other conveyance, or by foot or other form of active or adventure travel; consumption of alcoholic beverages; breakdown of equipment; high altitude; inclement weather; lack of or limited access to medical attention in remote locations; elephant stampede; and inadequacy of medical attention once provided.  Canottieri San Miniato is not responsible for additional expenses due to delays or changes in transport or hotel services, sickness, weather, strikes, war, quarantine, government regulations, amazing handbags, or any other cause.

(Standard legal jargon aside, since we are not a Travel Agency we are not liable for travel snafus in the same way as a commercial agency would be. We have never HAD an unhappy customer but the important thing to note here is that we are rowers working with rowers, not an agency booking for customers. Any problems can be handled by working together in an ethical and common sense manner.)

In rare cases (such as trips outside of Tuscany) a trip may be cancelled or the date changed if enrollment falls below the necessary minimum or for other reasons unforeseen at this time.  Payment return will take place only under these circumstances.  Cancellation is possible without penalty if you can find someone to fill your spot.  For this reason we strongly suggest that you book your plane tickets only after receiving full confirmation from us.

Having said all that we remind you that we always do everything possible to ensure your stay runs as smoothly as possible!
Reservations & Pictures & Phones
Reservations
A down payment of €200 is due to secure your space for our Tuscany trips, trips outside of Tuscany require a down payment of €500.  Full payment of tour cost is due no later than two weeks before your arrival.  Payments may be made in the following way:

-      PayPal to canottieri@canottierisanminiato.it
-      Bank transfer in your local currency, we'll provide the details

Pictures
Last but not least: in our newsletters and on our website, we use real pictures taken during our trips.  If you object to a picture taken by you or showing you to being used, please let us know.

Phones
Many people forget to set up their phones for international travel and either keep them turned off while here or use them and find unpleasant charges when they return home. The best advice we have is to talk to your carrier beforehand, if you can use your phone in an emergency, great. If you need to chose between data and phone, chose data. Our preference is for a messaging app called WhatsApp that also allows voice calls.  We set up a group for your week and keep everyone updated regarding pick-up times and changes in schedules.  You may and should also give our cell number to your family in case they are worried about reaching you. It's +39-349-7818829.
