The JENIOUS group supported by the YES group
- young researcher communities of ISPAD (INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY
FOR PEDIATRIC AND ADOLESCENT DIABETES) and ESPE (EUROPEAN
SOCIETY FOR PEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY) - invite all healthcare providers to
participate in this survey study to assess different approaches on diagnosis,
management, workup, and treatment in Neonatal Diabetes.
Background: Neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM)
is defined as persistent hyperglycemia within the first 6 months of life. Most
individuals with NDM have either a bi- or uniallelic mutation in any of the
genes that control the development and function of pancreatic beta-cells
leading to diminished insulin secretion/function. While most patients with NDM
present within the first 6 months of life, some may present up to 12 months of
age. NDM can be transient, permanent, isolated or a component of a specific
syndrome. The incidence of NDM is variable and rates from 1:20,000 to 1:160,000
live births have been reported from different populations. As hyperglycemia in
a neonate is not an uncommon occurrence making the diagnosis of NDM can be a
challenge.
Objective: This survey aims to explore some
aspects of NDM management among healthcare professionals of pediatric diabetes
teams as well as neonatal and neonatal intensive care units. Your participation
will help inform best practices and guide future research aimed at setting and
defining the standard of comprehensive care for this rare form of
diabetes.
How to participate: You are invited to participate
in this study reporting your experience on NDM as a Endocrinologist/Diabetologist.
If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to answer to this
online survey, which will take around 10 minutes. Your responses will be
completely anonymous. You are also invited to share the survey with your
colleague.
We would like to thank you in
advance for contributing to this survey.
