Labor and the Working Class Study Series
Join the East Bay DSA Labor Committee this winter for a 7-part study series put on by its Jobs Program that provides essential political education for socialist rank-and-file worker organizers. Open to all and designed for anyone engaged or interested in workplace or non-workplace based movement work!

We begin the series with an essential introduction to Marxist theories of working class formation and its relations to capitalist production, social reproduction, colonialism, and race. We then review socialist perspectives, theoretical and strategic, on labor organizing in general and unions in particular from the past and present. Finally, we look at the evolution of the US labor movement during key periods of the 20th century that can help inform our approach to socialist labor organizing in the present context.

We ask that participants commit to the whole series in advance (as much as possible!) rather than only specific classes. This will help us develop a comprehensive shared intellectual foundation, maintain consistent and comfortable group learning dynamics, and build stronger rapport among comrades.

The series starts Sunday, January 9th at 3:00pm and will meet regularly on Zoom every other week for a total of 7 sessions.

Readings, audio clips, and video clips will be shared digitally at no cost and will average 25 pages per session.
