Ride Along Expectations *
The CUPD Ride Along Program is being offered to you as a privilege by the University of Colorado Boulder Police Department. As a participant in the program, you are expected to adhere to the following:

1. You must sign a waiver of liability incorporated into the Ride Along Program request form (above). Persons under 18 years of age must have the form signed by a parent or guardian (also above). The signed waiver needs to be submitted at least one week prior to the requested ride along date. No one under the age of 16 may participate in the program.

2. Please arrive at CUPD on the day of your scheduled ride along 15 minutes prior to your scheduled start time. This will provide adequate time to complete any necessary forms and/or receive any required briefings. The address and phone number for CUPD is:

1050 Regent Drive
Boulder, CO 80309
(303) 492-6666

3. You will be notified by email when your ride is approved and scheduled.

4. You will be returned to the Police Department at the scheduled end of the ride along, barring any unforeseen circumstances. There is no guarantee that you can be returned to the Police Department exactly at the time the ride along is scheduled to end. If the ride along is terminated for some reason or you do not wish to complete the ride, you will be returned to the Police Department earlier than scheduled, if practical.

5. Riders should wear clothing suitable for contacting the public and in consideration of the weather conditions. Tank tops, sleeveless shirts, exposed midriffs, cut off shorts, worn out jeans, high heels, and open-toed footwear are not acceptable. Clothing described as business casual is recommended.

6. Any video and/or audio recording is not permitted unless authorized by the Chief of Police.

7. You cannot interfere in the officer's / dispatcher's duties. Please hold any questions you may have until after the officer / dispatcher has completed the call for service or is no longer in contact with a victim, suspect, or witness. Please note that the officer may not be able to answer your questions at the time you ask and, due to privacy concerns, may not be able to fully answer your questions.

8. You may not engage in any police activity unless specifically directed by an officer and may not be armed - this includes pocketknives.

9. You may not leave the police car or talk with victims, suspects, or witnesses, or other persons contacted on calls for service unless directed to do so by the officer / dispatcher you are riding with.

10. You may ride only once every six (6) months. This gives an opportunity to others that may wish to participate.

11. You are riding in the capacity of an observer only. The officer is in complete control at all times.

12. During the ride along, you may witness events which will be introduced to the criminal justice system. You may be identified in a police report as a witness to the event. It is possible that you may be subpoenaed to testify in legal proceedings as to what you saw. Should you be subpoenaed, you are neither entitled to, nor will you receive, any compensation from CUPD or the University.

13. Failure to adhere to the above expectations will result in the termination of the ride along and may result in suspension of all future ride along requests.

I hereby represent that I have carefully read and understand the contents of this document and sign the same of my own free will.
A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
