The Pride Parade will take place on August 12, 2023.
Q - Queer Student Association will participate in the Reykjavík Pride Parade. The association has decided to invite LÍS and their member associations to join us and thus show support for queer students in action.

Short description of the act
The idea is basically that all students stand together and lift up and empower queer students when the need arises, and that time is now. We would collaborate with student associations within Iceland's universities and invite them to become part of our act, and we would encourage the queer people to be at the center of the act. The act would be titled Skjaldborg hinsegin stúdenta / the shields of queer students, in the symbolic and literal meaning of the word.

A more detailed description of the act:
The act is divided into two groups, in one group are the queer students and in the other group are the allies. The queer group would be in the center of the act, specifically on a decorated carriage in colorful outfits. The carriage would be decorated. Allies would wear banners that say "Skjaldborg hinsegin stúdenta" (e.  the shields of queer students). The allies would then surround the wagon and walk with us in a protective circle, turning the attention to the queer people. Some allies would also carry decorated shields, with various drawn inscriptions and slogans, to protect themselves and us, thus forming a stronger shield group. The idea is basically that all students stand together and lift up queer students when the need arises, and that time is now. That way we would walk together as one group in unison.

Message of the act:
Í kjölfar undiröldunnar sem hefur gengið um samfélagið þurfum við meira á stuðningi bandamanna að halda en áður. Við viljum hvetja fólk til að stíga fram og lýsa stuðningi sínum við hinsegin samfélagið svo við stöndum ekki alltaf ein í baráttunni.

In the aftermath of the wave that has swept through society, we need the support of allies more than before. We want to encourage people to come forward and express their support for the LGBT+ community so that we are not always alone in the fight.

Carriage or shield walkers?
Anyone who supports the LGBT+ community is welcome to join us in the march. ❤️
There is limited space available on the carriage, so it is important that those who want to be there register as soon as possible! 💖

Are you going to walk with Q in the Reykjavík Pride Parade next August 12th? *
We especially want to invite queer students to join us on the carriage, but keep in mind that there is limited space, so it is important that you register in time to be able to join us on the train. 🥰

We expect to be able to welcome everyone who wants to join in the shield group that walks along the carriage. 🫶
Are you ready to be a tire guard? 🛞
What do the tire guards do?
Dekkjaverðir þurfa að ganga meðfram atriðum í göngunni til að gæta þess að fjarlægð milli bíls og áhorfenda haldist a.m.k. einn metri.
Tire guards have to walk along the carriage in the Pride walk to make sure that the distance between the car and the spectators is maintained at least one meter.

We encourage allies to take on this role, it is one of the most important roles in the march and it is not hard
(Here you can read more about safety during the walk).

It is important to arrive on time
Line-up for the Pride Parade starts at 12:00 o'clok at the Tækniskóli in Skólavörðuholt (right next to Hallgrímskirkja) and the carriages drive into the line-up area from Eiríksgata. When the participants arrive, a representative from Reykjavík Pride (Hinsegin dagar) directs them to the right place and the security manager checks that security rules are being followed. Please arrive on time as lining up for the walk can be time consuming.

The Pride Parade starts at 14:00 o'clock.
The same route as last year: Line up at the Tækniskóli, then walk down Skólavörðustígur, Laugavegur, Bankastræti, Lækjargata and Fríkirkjuvegur. Car traffic turns right into Skothúsvegur and their unloading takes place there. Walking groups continue into Sóleyjargata and eventually everyone ends up at Hjómskálagarður.

Here are further details of the walk, but we will also update you on everything you need to know! 💖

We look forward to seeing you! 🏳️‍🌈
