People all across the world are experiencing changes to our daily lives like no other period of recent history. As the only museum in the state with the tripartite mission of research, teaching, and collecting and holding the the largest collections, it is our responsibility to recognize this fact and to collect accordingly for the future generations.
UAMN staff want to know about your experiences during these times of social distancing. We want you to tell us what objects are symbolic of what we are going through as a state and a community. Consider what physical items have become essential to your daily life, both in and outside of your home. What objects will future generations need to see to understand how our lives have been changed by the coronavirus?
Please help the UA Museum of the North capture a small part of this time in history by making a suggestion about what we should collect, once it is safe to collect them. Share your stories of how you are dealing with the changes and how you are feeling about life in Alaska in 2020. Our goal is to save these stories and include them in future exhibits and research projects that acknowledge how our community has come together while staying physically apart. Help us document this important part of our shared history.
