CTF events are similar to online scavenger hunts, except considerably more difficult due to the amount and calibre of technical knowledge required. These events revolve less around programming specifically (though it definitely helps to know some Python at the very least), and are more about understanding the underlying technology/concept behind the problem, thinking outside the box, and looking for the right tools to help.
