SOUTH AFRICAN YOUTH CLIMATE ACTION PLAN FORMAL INPUT SUBMISSION FORM
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS 13 AUGUST 2021!
A process is currently being convened to develop the first South African Youth Climate Action Plan (YCAP). The vision for the document is two-fold. Firstly, the youth written formal declaration component will serve as a guide for youth, decision-makers, civil society, and relevant stakeholders to inspire local climate action that is equitable, relevant, and intersectional. Secondly, it serves as a platform to share stories, art and media while expanding and fostering a cohesive youth network that will build a sustainable and climate resilient future. This current call for submissions is directed at young people and youth organisations interested in co-creating a sustainable, greener and intersectional future. We call on you to share your lived experiences and visions of the future to inform the policy declaration section of the YCAP.

So far, young people engaged in the process have decided upon five pillars and numerous principles described below. These pillars and principles serve to guide you in thinking about which key thematic areas you think should be addressed in the YCAP. The pillars and principles are not set in stone and we recognise that there may be important areas that are  left out, so If you feel that there are themes missing, feel free to add them in your submission.

The YCAP process is being convened through the Youth Programmes at the South African Institute of International Affairs (Youth@SAIIA) in partnership with various organisations, schools, and university groups across South Africa.

The Pillar/Principle structure allows us to establish what the overarching themes of our national YCAP are (PILLARS) and what related topics can be discussed under them (PRINCIPLES). This will help us to clearly know which areas of climate action South African youth are interested in addressing.
