Code Chica - Guest Speaker Opportunities
What is Code Chica? This program is FREE for students between 8th and 12th grade. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a $80 stipend and a certificate outlining their accomplishments. Students will work together with instructors and guest speakers that currently work in computer science, engineering, technology development, and more while learning introductory HTML, CSS, and Javascript to create their own website! The sessions are held on Saturdays from 11am- 2 pm.

Guest Speaker Role:
-Give a short presentation sharing your career experience and tips for girls to get involved in STEM
-Create an interactive experience where the girls can engage in the conversation. Please provide PowerPoint slides.
-Guest speaker guidelines will be provided through email.
- Can guarantee commitment for the entire duration of the guest speaker slot(s) you select
- Having an enthusiastic and encouraging nature towards the cohort students.

Below are guiding questions to inform your presentation:
- Talk about your life, your job, and why representation is important in your line of work
- What is your background? What did you go to university/college for? Where do you currently work?
- What steps did you take to get to the position you’re in right now? What advice would you give to your younger self?
- Why is representation in your line of work important? Are you a part of any Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) or other affiliate groups that help communities of color, women, other marginalized groups of people?
- Any other information about other outside initiatives that you do outside of work

What is Code Chica++? CodeChica++ is a FREE course designed to teach students about source control, writing tests, fixing bugs, and other web development fundamentals. This program is available to students who have graduated from the first-tier Code Chica cohort. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a $90 stipend and a certificate.

In the Spring we host Code Chica++, an advanced-level coding course where students will learn development fundamentals and explore the roles of Engineer, Designer, and Product Manager through building features on an existing application.

The dates with Guest Speaker openings for Code Chica++ are unavailable at the moment. We are actively looking for a coding instructor.
