Taishya Adams (she/her) is an educator, environmentalist, climate and social justice expert, outdoor recreationalist, musician, entrepreneur, and lover of this beautiful city she’s called home for 11 years. Taishya is a servant leader focused on community building, personal transformation, and systems change. Taishya is the CEO of the Mukuyu Collective, LLC, which transforms inequitable systems through policy, programs, and play. Taishya serves on the Colorado Office of Tourism’s Destination Stewardship Council balancing outdoor recreation, stewardship, and economic sustainability. Taishya also serves on the board of Black in Marine Science and is a founding member of the Outdoor FUTURES Initiative. Previously, Taishya served as a commissioner to Colorado Parks and Wildlife; acting chair of the NOAA National Marine Sanctuary Business Advisory Council; and representative on the Colorado Natural Areas Council.


Prior to founding the Collective, Taishya worked as the national policy & education director and Colorado Network co-lead for Outdoor Afro; educational equity specialist at the American Institutes for Research; technical assistance provider to the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools; performance officer for the DC Public Charter School Board; and started her career with the Children Defense Fund Freedom Schools strengthen education and cultural competence through summer and after school enrichment programs.

Taishya is the founding Board President of New Legacy Charter School, a public charter high school and early learning center in Aurora, Colorado. Taishya holds an MA in International Education from George Washington University; a BA from Vassar College in Political Science and Film; and a Charter School Management Certificate from Harvard University.

Taishya lives with her partner and their two fur babies. Taishya enjoys hiking, birding, trail trotting, cross country skiing, fly fishing, rock climbing, and forest bathing.
