In 2023, we will commemorate the 80th anniversary for the Danish rescue operation during the Holocaust. Thousands of Danish Jews were smuggled in fishing boats and other vessels to neutral Sweden in 1943, in defiance of Nazi deportation orders. Although a small portion were caught by the Germans, 99% of Danish Jewry survived the Holocaust. This remarkable story of courage and resistance should be remembered and passed on to the youth.
'The Autographers' is an international initiative that aims to connect local communities with their unique histories, through photography, interviews and writing.
To honor the Danish rescue operation, 'The Autograpgers' will initiate a special photography and documentation project. The aim is to connect with – and document – people who have memories and stories to share about this unique period in history.
Invited to register:
-Witnesses or their descendants (second or third generation)
-Photographers and writers are invited to register to take part in this unique experience, documenting people (and their testimonies) related to this historical event.
The results: A photography exhibition and accompanying catalogue, planned for June 2023. The exhibition will consist of personal portraits, accompanied by a short text about the subject of the photograph and their story.
