What new crime-related issues or trends are you seeing in your locality during the COVID-19 pandemic?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, crime victims in my locality are having the following experiences when attempting to access safety and justice through the criminal justice system:

Fear of/guilt about reporting partner’s crime to police during COVID-19

Difficulties related to law enforcement response (for instance- no arrests made/summons given, no separation of parties, no EPO issued, no LAP/lethality assessment)

Difficulties receiving timely notification of court dates

Lack of notification of release of offenders

Privacy or safety violations due to use of video conferencing for hearings

Inability to utilize video conferencing due to lack of technology or availability of internet/phone connections

Difficulty completing or submitting court documents remotely

Difficulty petitioning for or obtaining protective orders

Denial of right to be heard in criminal proceedings

Fear or discomfort seeking medical care for injuries, including forensic exams, while hospitals are treating COVID-19 patients

Partnering non-profits temporarily unable to assist with food, shelter, and/or medical services

Victims have experienced no difficulties specific to this pandemic
