Outdoor Classes at Two Bear Farm
Hi! My name is Hillary and I am setting out to create opportunities for local kids to get connected with the environment, learn how/where food is grown, and explore nature through hands-on extra-curricular learning activities. I have partnered with local farmers Todd and Rebecca Ulizio of Two Bear Farm who have been willing to open up their healthy, organic grounds for classes to take place.
*Please take a moment to answer the questions below, so I can gauge community interest and make a plan that best suits family needs.
About me: I am a certificated teacher with a Masters in Elementary Education. I have been teaching in public schools, international schools and private tutoring in reading, writing and math over the last 5 years. Before I decided to go back to school to pursue education, I was an organic produce buyer for a farm-to-door company in Seattle. I am originally from Washington State, but my husband grew up in the Flathead Valley and we've called Whitefish our home for the last two years.
My end-goal is to start my own alternative school, but I'm taking baby steps to get there and first would like to offer after-school (or mid-day if homeschooled) outdoor classes this spring and summer. These can be group classes structured before-hand or specialized to meet your child's needs. Within these activities math, reading and writing skills will be embedded as well.
Example classes/activities:
*Plant identification - treasure hunt for specific plants with botanical illustration
*Animal track identification with scientific illustration
*Gardening
*Composting and plant life cycles
*Cooking/food prep with veggies hand-picked on the farm
*Yoga + Meditation: connecting movement and breath
..and more!
Pricing will be based on class duration, group size and grade level.
Thank you for your interest, and please answer the few questions below!
