I will comply with the school's volunteer policy and requirements.  I will follow all health rules including any current Covid-19 guidelines, TB tests, etc.  I can't bring children with me to volunteer. *
The teacher must remain in the classroom during my visit.   *
I will learn and try the project before teaching it!  *
Projects may have variations for various grades.  When learning the project pay attention!  It is suggested you do the variation for the grade you are teaching.   *
Hands on Art often provides various resources, like videos, slideshows and handouts.  You can choose what  resources you want to use.  Below are some examples.  There is one example we do not recommend...can you select the bad example? *
It is great to have a time plan. It is important to watch the clock! *
I will be early and stay late!  (Check with school chair for best advice!!!)  If the class is having the lesson from 9-10am, I will get there before 9 to prep, and stay after 10 to clean. *
What is NOT a benefit of going early before teaching?  *
It is great to have a lesson hook.  A lesson hook is: *
You may want to know how the teacher quiets the class  (clap once...).  It can become helpful during the lesson when you want to get the classes attention! *
Use art words or terms as you teach!  You can add a description so they understand the new terms.  For instance, "Use cool colors. Blue and green are considered cool colors" or "Let's create a wash, a very light layer of color".  Why? *
Younger students can have a tricky time judging and understanding size and space.  What is NOT something you should do to help?  *
While teaching a docent said, 'Well, my cat looks pretty bad.  I goofed up because it is hard and I'm not a great artist. But I'm sure your cats will be great'.  Check all the other better things they could have done.   *
Required
I will not write or draw on a student's art project!   *
Tempted to write or draw something for a student?  Which statements are good ideas that you can do instead of drawing or writing on a child's art project to help them. *
Required
I will not judge a child's artwork.  If I say to Jenny that I love her cat, Tom can think something is wrong with his cat. Poor Tom.  Instead I will do things like tell the class they are doing great, following instructions, or ask questions about their work. *
I will encourage individual differences, be flexible, allow variations and have fun! *
I will clean-up the classroom after each project, gather and clean supplies, and follow instructions from my school chair so they are ready for the next class. *
Thank you for volunteering and helping to bring the art projects to the classes!!!  Any questions or feedback, please contact your school chair :)
A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
