These lectures will appeal to anybody with an interest in sociolinguistics, documentation linguistics, ethnography and oral traditions. The aim is to give the student and prospective fieldworker some theoretical and practical tools for understanding and documenting the ethnolinguistic practices of the target community. We will be talking about some of the challenges of working with oral traditions, storytellers and the like. Everybody with an interest in language and ethnography is welcome!
