Welcome or welcome back to Science Olympiad! Science Olympiad is a fun, learning experience. You'll develop leadership, team work, and self discipline skills. SciOly is a team-based competition consisting of 3 divisions, but middle schoolers will participate in Division B. Science Olympiad has 23 events, over a variety of topics.
There are multiple types of events including: study events, build events, labs and hands on events. Each event has two to three students working together, and you are not required to compete in an event on your own. You are allowed to use different resources to help, based on the rules on your specific event. You will meet once a week (per event) with your coaches to study/practice for approaching competitions. Coaches will be parent volunteers.
Competitions will be on four different levels: invitational (hosted by schools or colleges), regionals (competing with schools in your region, top goes to state), state (highest placing team from each state advance), and nationals. (Will go into more detail when competitions come close). In the SciOly season, we will go to about 5 competitions.
Good luck, and we hope to see you soon!
Besides mentoring and logistics, help will be needed in generating funds as we expect an expense of $275 per student. Donations can be made through checks payable to "AMS SCIENCE OLMPIAD" or "AUSD__AMS SCIENCE OLMPIAD or through School bucks. You will be required to get the materials and the kits.
