MIDWEST DEVELOPMENT CYCLING RIDER & PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

RIDER & Parents shall at all times conduct him/herself in a manner that does not cause embarrassment or create a negative impact for Midwest Development Cycling Inc or any of its sponsors. This includes conduct at races, while traveling to and from races, in motels or other accommodations (including private homes), at all times while in public, as well as with other athletes and coaches. Public urination (unless extreme emergency…it does happen) and vulgar language will not be tolerated.

RIDER & Parents will not disrespect Midwest Development Cycling board, coaches, support staff, officers, team members, sponsors, race promoters, board members in any form of public media whether the media be verbal, printed, or electronic (websites, chat rooms, blogs, etc).

RIDER must wear a securely fastened helmet at all times while riding a bicycle regardless of whether the rider is wearing Midwest Development Cycling clothing. This includes races, training races, group rides, individual training rides, and at any other times when the rider is on a bicycle. The only exception is while warming up on rollers/wind trainers. This is essential for legal and safety reasons, and includes scooters at races.

RIDER is encouraged to thank one person connected with promoting or staging each race at which s/he competes for their involvement or the job they are doing.

RIDER shall wear Midwest Development Cycling clothing in all races and on all training rides on which there are at least four cyclists.

RIDER may not compete for any other mountain bike, cyclocross or track team in USA Cycling, UCI, American Bicycle Racing, American Track Racing Association or any other independent cycling federation events during 2023 without a release signed by the leadership of Midwest Development Cycling.

RIDER may be coached individually by a coach not affiliated with Midwest Development Cycling. However, RIDER will abide by the directions of Midwest Development Cycling leaders or managers when two or more Midwest Development Cycling members are present in the same event.

RIDER & Parents are responsible for prompt attendance at any meetings called by the team’s officers or manager.

NO JUNIOR RIDER shall consume alcohol or any illegal drugs (including marijuana) at any time. There are no exceptions. This prohibition applies to Midwest Development Cycling riders at all times, not just while at races or traveling with the team.

NO RIDER shall consume any substances banned by the rules of USA Cycling or the UCI. Any rider who tests positive for a banned substance will be removed from the team immediately. Midwest Development Cycling has a Zero Tolerance Drug Policy.

RIDER shall abide by the following while on group rides or at race venues: 1. Ride in direction of traffic and follow the rules of the road. 2. Use hand signals and obey traffic signs. 3. Call out when overtaking other non-group riders that you encounter while riding. 4. Do not litter. 5. Do not antagonize or otherwise inflame confrontations with motorists. 6. Maintain a positive attitude while wearing team clothing.

RIDER shall respect all directions of the team leaders and officers regarding behavior.

RIDER must comply with all rules of USA Cycling as detailed in the most recent version of its rules. Those rules are available online at www.usacycling.org. Riders are responsible for reading and understanding these rules. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse for failure to comply with them. Parents, read and understand the rules as well.
